Watermarks, 2017
The photo installation has been carried out in collaboration with Timian Westerberg, in the city of Skagen, the northernmost part of Denmark.
The intention was to capture how the ocean surrounding the city influences its residents and their everyday lives. In interviews with the inhabitants of the city we collected the immaterial traces from the water through personal stories. We asked each respondent to give us a location associated with the given story. Through photography we archived and documented the places we were led to, trying to catch the traces of the water and its long-lasting influence on the surrounding nature and the people living close to it.
Each individual story and a hand drawn map of the place made by the respondent, was presented in a leaflet. The audience was encouraged to bring it with them.
The photos and the leaflet were displayed in the basement of Skagen Police Station, where the inside of the room had been affected by water damage.
