The Visual Narrative, 2019

The proposed project aimed at staging a collection of minerals from Geological Museum in Copenhagen, creating fascination and involvement with the objects on display. The exhibition consisted of a series of three rooms, space for ‘context’, ‘observation’ and ‘relation’. The project focused on space for observation, embracing an experience-oriented exhibition strategy, without forgetting the physical encounter with the real objects. Through the exhibition narrative, I wanted the visitor to reflect upon our relationship with nature and use of natural resources.

The solution was a flexible display design, allowing for multiple configurations, providing a grid framework for the curation process. Two glass frames acted as filters in between the objects and the visitors, utilizing the refraction of light to either zooming in or zooming out and blurring the characteristics of the mineral. The design focused on highlighting the aesthetic qualities of the minerals as a method towards engagement.

Inspiration for the faceted design derived from the crystal structures and the inherent facets of minerals.

Furthermore the design focused on creating a visual hierarchy as well as encouraging an exploratory movement through the space.
